Episode 35: Flippin' Beef
Before getting into the show we talked about what Draymond Green REALLY looks like, getting work done by students, and why it’s important for you to share and review this show. As usual, we covered a wide range of topics on this episode, including the NFL, NBA, and WWE. You can listen to this episode via iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, and Soundcloud; you can also skip ahead to the topic of your choosing by clicking on the corresponding time stamp(s).
Kept things short and sweet with our NFL discussions this week. We recapped the Conference Championship Games this past weekend (00:12:56), then discussed Eagles fans making donations to the Mike Zimmer Foundation (00:18:12), before talking about Richie Incognito and Yannick Ngaboue squashing their beef (00:20:04). We finished this topic discussion by saying if we’d watch the Pro Bowl (00:20:54) and by giving our opinions on the NFL’s rulings on the Panthers and Raiders (00:22:36).
Before getting into the NBA segment, Camille let everyone know that next week’s episode will be dropping a day early (00:23:03). We respect greatness so we kicked off our NBA segment by giving credit to DeMarcus Cousins for his amazing performance against the Bulls (00:23:50). Next, we got into everything that has come along with the Jason Kidd firing (00:24:34) which was interspersed with random conversations including black nicknames, Camille’s type, and drunk laser tag. Next we discussed if the reports of Kawhi Leonard being unhappy in San Antonio was news or noise (00:35:08), the Cavaliers latest team meeting/dysfunction (00:36:07), and players on the trading block (00:40:34).
What’s beef? We discussed John Wall vs. JJ Barea and the Wizards team meeting preceding that interaction (00:43:53). That conversation was followed up by discussing the rumored NBA Slam Dunk Contest participants (00:47:29), Damian Lillard’s meeting with team owner Paul Allen (00:51:11), and Kevin Durant’s comments about Clint Capela (00:51:54). This topic discussion ends with us discussing the NBA pursuing the legalization of gambling (00:53:53), Dan Gilbert reportedly being interested in selling the Cavaliers (00:55:50), and LeBron’s latest milestone (00:56:06).
Bad news first: we discussed why Enzo Amore was fired from the WWE this week (00:58:34) and why wrestling fans who paid $400 or more to attend RAW 25 in the Manhattan Center were PISSED so we discussed that and the show (00:59:25). Lastly, we encouraged you to join our FREE Royal Rumble Pool (01:01:10) and previewed the upcoming Royal Rumble while discussing which matches we’re most looking forward to (01:02:25).
HEADING INTO OVERTIME
We cut on Facebook Live and then went to our TECKnical Foul Pod: Overtime Facebook group to respond to listener questions from the following:
Nelson: What should the Cavaliers do with their roster? (01:04:46)
Gregory: Who do you think has the biggest chance to compete against the Eagles and Patriots next year? (01:06:27)
Cartwheelin’ Mo: Do you think people respect Damian Lillard? If not why? Also, do you think he should leave Portland? If so, where do you think he should go? (01:09:06)
Cereal Sensei: I’ve heard a lot of people (myself included) saying they might not watch the Super Bowl. Do you think they’re bluffing? Will you be tuning in? (01:12:16)
THE LAST POSSESSION
Quick hits on:
Zion Williamson committing to Duke (01:17:36)
LaVar Ball serving as an assistant coach for LiAngelo and LaMelo’s game in the BBB Challenge (01:18:19)
Rafael Nadal being forced to retire during the fifth set of the Australian Open (01:19:30)
Kobe being nominated for an Oscar for his animated short “Dear Basketball” (01:21:07)
BLOW THE WHISTLE Two victims this week:
Eric led the charge in calling out Larry Nassar and Tim added his two cents to finish it up (01:22:11)
Camille closed the segment out by calling out David Blatt for his failed pettiness (01:28:11)
We went live on Instagram while reviewing the results of last week’s #TECKTop5 poll that Ken won (01:31:04) before we dropped our #TECKTop5 best current coaches in the NBA (01:34:00). To drop your own #TECKTop5 or to vote on the poll, make sure that you are a member of our TECKnical Foul Pod: Overtime Facebook group.
(01:37:16) We wrapped things up by dropping our social media handles and saying goodbyes. Thanks for listening, remember to share the show with your friends, and check back in next week!
